When a rock is just lying on the ground or in a stack, it can look relatively drab and uninteresting. But get up close or take its picture, and it takes on all kinds of shapes, colors, and meanings. Case in point, this rock full of pock marks. I guess a geologist could tell you what caused the marks. Maybe hailstones on molten magma? Or organic matter that decomposed and washed away? Or perhaps something as simple as someone with a pickaxe trying to free up the rock so s/he can put it in the garden where I found it.
I do a lot of rock macros, so hopefully you’ll find more of them the next time you visit.
